Waiting for Advent: Advent Quiet Day
Saturday, December 9, 2017
Conference Room 179
9:00am - 1:00pm
On December 9, HIEC will join with parishioners from St. Patrick's for an Advent quiet day from 9:00am-1:00pm. Led by the Rev. Ruth Pattison, the day will include creative activities, scripture reflections, and contemplative time. We hope that by joining with fellow Episcopalians we will find new insight as we journey together to greet the Christ child. Bring your lunch - drinks are provided!
The Rev. Ruth Pattison’s "Pop-up Studio for Practicing the Pastoral Arts" is a mindful mixed media approach to doing, making, and creating something with our spiritual lives. For this Advent Quiet Day, we will engage with art materials to contemplate the Names of the anticipated One. Legend has it that, back in the day, as the waiting of Advent reached a fever pitch and gave way to expectation of the Nativity, monks added a little spiritual spice to their daily prayers. They began and ended the Magnificat antiphonally with the "O Antiphons" for the Octave of Christmas: O Wisdom, O Radix Jesse, O Clavis David. . . O Emmanuel. . . they would pass one another and whisper them as whimsical greetings, "O Sapientia!" Bursting with a name that only the single letter word "O" could adequately announce, the "O" lends itself to exploration through work with the Mandala and the process of "O"-pening our hearts!
